As a female leader in Quality Engineering, Nine has empowered me to ‘turn over every stone’. What sets Nine apart is its commitment to ‘keeping it human’, valuing empathy and connection, and ensuring everyone feels seen and heard. I’m truly proud to be part of Nine’s dynamic journey.
I joined Nine as an software engineer intern back in early 2021 and decided to stay on after graduation in 2022 and contribute to customer-facing service products in 9Now that use - amongst many other technologies - Next.js, Nest + GraphQL, AWS (Lambda, EB, etc). It means a lot to me that the products I work on are actively seen by the world.
Our Product at Work
Solutions and innovations put into practice by 9Now team.
9Now is Australia's leading free-to-air streaming service, with a focus on delivering top-notch coverage of the Olympics Games for the next 10 years, starting with the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games in Paris in 2024.
For 9Now, the team has a proud track record of pioneering features that enhance user experience. They were the first BVOD platform to provide free-to-air channels in Full HD (1080p, 50FPS) with Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound, offering viewers unparalleled audio and visual quality.
Its innovative Start Over feature allows viewers to catch up on the beginning of a program while watching Live TV, setting 9Now apart as the first and only BVOD app with this capability.
Expanding 9Now’s horizons across web, mobile, and connected TV devices, the team recently launched on various new devices, including Hisense, Foxtel IQ, and Roku TV’s, giving users more options to access their favourite content.
To cater to evolving content preferences, they also introduced vodcasts (video podcasts) on 9Now, accompanying some of its most popular programs, further enriching the viewer experience.
Breaking records is in the DNA here, as demonstrated by the achievement of hosting the biggest single live streaming event in Australia with the State of Origin. The team’s commitment to sports streaming is unwavering, and it takes pride in supporting and monetising some of Australia's most beloved sporting events, including the Australian Open, The Ashes, The Women’s Ashes, and the NRL Premiership series.
Nine is an evolving digital business, adapting to our audiences with all of their different interests and viewing habits. With dozens of websites and apps across publishing and streaming, there’s no shortage of opportunities to make your mark within this space.
Within Product and Technology are different areas of expertise. The Broadcast Technology team is a small, highly capable and motivated team who work together to support other internal broadcast teams and stakeholders that are dependent on the systems and services that get our productions and shows live to air. The System Engineers are responsible for the design, implementation and support of all broadcast systems and services. And the Broadcast Technical Support teams provide frontline, first and second level support for system issues including hardware, software and other technical problems.
We are proud of our diverse workforce and foster an inclusive culture where everyone feels valued and respected. We believe that diversity drives innovation and enables us to develop solutions and products that meet the needs of our users and audiences.
Our Women in Tech group is a grassroots initiative devoted to supporting DE&I objectives at Nine. The group spearheads a range of activities to mentor and support Women in Tech, within Nine and also those who are studying STEM courses and starting out in their tech careers.
