How we work

At Nine, our ways of working are as diverse as the roles themselves. Flexibility comes in all shapes and sizes, and depends on the role and team.

For instance, you may be behind the camera or out in the field gathering insights for a breaking story, where your hours and location are shaped by your day to day activities. Or your role could be based in the office meeting clients or connecting with stakeholders at times working from home as part of a hybrid team.

For roles that have more flexibility, there may be options like flexible hours, flexible location (office and work from home) or part-time arrangements. We welcome a conversation about your flexibility needs as part of the hiring process. Speak with your Talent Acquisition team member to explore what this could mean for you.

Parents@Nine - Parental leave

At Nine, we celebrate all types of families and the unique parenting journeys that come with them. Our parental leave policy is designed to support our people through this life-changing moment and minimise aspects that may contribute to gender inequities.

Some highlights of our policy for eligible employees include:

  • 18 weeks paid parental leave with no distinction between primary and secondary carers
  • Prior to Child Arrival Leave which includes time off for IVF, surrogacy, or adoption related meetings or appointments
  • Preterm Birth Leave for the birthing parent - this extra leave is offered in addition to the 18 weeks, recognising that when a baby arrives pre-term, both they and the parent often need time to recover
  • Neonatal/Postpartum Care Leave for the birthing parent - extra leave offered in addition to the 18 weeks for when the baby or birthing parent remain in hospital for acute care
  • Pregnancy-related Unlimited Sick Leave for the birthing parent
  • Superannuation paid on the first 12 months of parental leave
  • Continuous service is counted for Long Service Leave on the first 12 months of parental leave
  • No minimum tenure requirement for permanent employees to apply for parental leave.

Each entitlement and inclusion mentioned above may have specific eligibility requirements or conditions. These are detailed in the relevant Nine company policy.
